Anton Baláž (1943) writes fiction, film and television scripts, radio plays, and essays. He studied journalism, and most of his life he worked as a journalist, editor, and finally as editor-in-chief of the weekly Sloboda and later of the daily Slovenský denník. He is now retired, but continues to write. Over his long writing career he has written more than a dozen novels, six radio plays, and a number of other pieces. His works have been translated into Czech, German, Polish, Ukrainian, and English.
