Slovak Literature in English Translation

Charles Sabatos is a professor in the English language and literature department at Yeditepe University in Istanbul.  Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he received his doctorate in comparative literature from the University of Michigan (2005).  He is the author of the monographs Frontier Orientalism and The Turkish Image in Central European Literature (2020), and Medzi svetmi: Slovenská literatúra z americkej perspektívy (Between Worlds: Slovak Literature from an American Perspective, translated by Zuzana Kubusová, 2026).  He is also co-editor with Katarina Gephardt and Ivana Taranenková of the collected volume, Home and the World in Slovak Writing: A Small Nation’s Literature in Context (2025). His translation of Gejza Vámoš’s God’s Atoms is forthcoming. Apart from his book-length translations, he has also translated texts by Jonáš Záborský, Dominik Tatarka, Peter Karpinský, Svetlana Žuchová, Igor Hochel, and Tomáš Hudák.
