SlovakLiterature.com is a site dedicated to bringing Slovak literature to English-language readers and to promoting Slovak literature abroad, serving as a curated portal for book-length English translations of Slovak literary works that have been published since 2000, as well as reviews, interviews, and other resources. These include the most comprehensive lists of all translations of Slovak literary works that have appeared in English by individual authors since 1950 and anthologies since 1899.
The site is the brainchild of two translators, Julia Sherwood and Magdalena Mullek, building on their successful collaboration in editing and translating the anthology Into the Spotlight (2017), and originally launched to introduce Raising the Velvet Curtain, a series of events promoting Slovak literature in the UK in October and November 2019, marking the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, which was made possible by grants from the Slovak Arts Council, the Arts Council England National Lottery, and by the generous support of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in the UK. Since 2020 Magdalena and Julia have been administering, expanding, and updating the website on an entirely voluntary basis.
