Alfonz Bednár
Alfonz Bednár (1914-1989) was born in Rožňová Neporadza. He studied Latin, Czech, and Slovak at Charles University in Prague (1934-1938) and at Comenius University in Bratislava (1938-1940). He taught at secondary schools in Liptovský Mikuláš and Bardejov. After World War II, he worked at the Ministry of Information in Bratislava. Then he became an editor with the publishing house Pravda and later Slovenský spisovateľ, and for almost twenty years he worked as a screenwriter and screenplay editor at Koliba film studios in Bratislava. Aside from his extensive original writing, he translated fiction from English.
