Nicol Hochholczerová
Nicol Hochholczerová (b.1999) grew up in Rimavská Sobota, and in 2024 completed a Master’s degree in graphic design at the Academy of Art in Banská Bystrica. Her short stories have garnered prizes in a number of literary competitions, and she has also received an award for her book illustrations. Táto izba sa nedá zjesť, 2021 (This Room Is Impossible To Eat, 2025), her book-length debut, was shortlisted for Slovakia’s most prestigious literary prize, Anasoft Litera, and has been translated into Bulgarian, Czech, German, Hungarian, Macedonian, Polish, Serbian, and Ukrainian. In 2022 Hochholczerová was named Young Artist of the Year by the Tatra Banka Foundation. In 2023, a theatre adaptation of the book opened in Žilina and Brno, Czech Republic, and a film version is being prepared. The Polish translation was nominated for the Angelus, a literary prize awarded to the best book by a Central European author written in or translated into, Polish.
